November 27, 2006: Consequent to its becoming an official member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Vietnam is aggressively implementing the concept of Handicraft village tourism, a unique form of cultural tourism thorough a detailed development plan.
A central nodal agency is designated to ensure proper coordination among industry, agriculture, trade, environment, investment, cultural and tourism departments and to ensure sustainable development, Waste treatment and anti-pollution systems are also compulsory requirements for the infrastructure being developed.
Here each type of craft would have at least one showroom with viewable system so that consumers can experience the products before purchasing them. These heritage villages would have competent guides who understand the historical and cultural aspects of the pieces, guides also would be proficient in foreign languages. Infrastructure is also being promoted to train guides who will be able to make it as career and would have coordination with international tour and travel agents. Various artisans artisans and handicraft villages are also being encouraged to join exhibitions and promotion events of the province as well as join Vietnamese cultural events in other countries to promote this unique form of tourism. Information technology would also be infused in this making it a success to attract western traveler.
Currently, Viet Nam has signed 29 bilateral agreements in tourism at governmental level with different countries and this is expected to help Vietnamese enterprises in particular with any subsidy.
