Gilgit is one of the very famous tourist destinations of Pakistan. Pakistan is located in the south Asian subcontinent. The Karakoram Highway connects Pakistan to China through the world’s highest Pass, the Khunjerab Pass. Gilgit is one of the cities which are located off the Karakoram highway. Traveling through the green Himalayas on the Karakoram Highway, you enter the zone of Karakorams few hours drive before you enter Gilgit. Gilgit is a very famous place for shopping of clothes and dry fruits. A lot of fruits are also produced in the region. The place is famous for its rasp apricots. Gilgit suffered huge loss of life and property in the October 8, 2005 earthquake. By now, the damaged buildings have been rebuilt completely.
You can visit Gilgit in any season. It is cold in winters but the weather is pleasant and traveling to Gilgit by road is fun in this time of the year. It is safer to travel to Gilgit by road in winters as there are lesser chances of land slides in winters. In summers the place is cool. Sometimes it may be warm enough in summers but generally it is better if you take warm clothes with you. You should carry a bag of bandages and medicines if you are planning to hike. Although the road route is very thrilling to travel but it also is very tiring. You can reach Gilgit by air if you feel like. The traveling by road to Gilgit may be tiring but it is worth it. As Gilgit is very near the mighty mountains of Karakoram which are the favorites of mountaineers from all across the globe, the people here have a multicultural exposure.
